Assalamualaikum wbt
Actually it's quite late for me to talk about this presidential election, but it's better late than never:p. I just would like to highlight one point here for us to ponder upon. Every time we listen to their speech either Sarah Palin, Mr Obama, Hillary or McCain, we would notice that their speeches are not the way Mat Sabu used to talk during Ceramah PAS, Khairy Jamaluddin's way of addressing the opponents as well as some our parliament members used to 'menyumpah' during the parliament sessions.
After enduring long and hard battle, Mr Obama has proved that he's not arrogant (at least) during the first moments of triumph. In his very early speech, Obama referenced his opponent as "brave and selfless leader" who had "endured sacrifice for America that most of us cannot even begin to imagine". He's not alone in respecting his opponents since his opponents also do the same things. After months of critizing to each other's policies, manifesto and approaches (read: attacking oppositions personal is not their MAIN agenda) they have showed that they are "true men" and being gentlemen until the end. In his concession speech, McCain accepts the defeat as a winner and while offering his sincere condolence to Obama's late grandmother and recognized her role for raising a great man that soon to become the most powerful people on the earth, Mc Cain congratulated those who had voted for him. Even during the emotional peak of his crowd, he managed to remain amazingly calm and prevented his crowd from booing his opponent while in Malaysia this is encouraged to do!
"Perhaps we have heard too much of Machiavellian politics that it is almost imbued in us, even spelling out the word "politics" itself implies some sort of necessary evil that underlay it.." quoting a friend's words. Yes, I absolutely agree as we always have that kind of 'politic is dirty' perspection in our mind. But it's not actually true as there are many politicians out there who's not swimming in that evil sea. After long battle competing for presidency, they both agree that they need to work together towards achieving the nation's dream. They managed to put aside their skin colours' difference to cherish the means of being American, working together towards achieving common goal for the benefits of the voters who had vote for both of them. None of them trying to punish any states/ groups of people for not voting for them by violating that groups right. Malaysia has not respected the choice of Terengganu voters when the central government denied the petroleum royalties that have always been given to Terengganu over decades as soon as the people of Terengganu choose PAS representatives to be their state leaders. Why people must be punished when they are voting out of democracy?
Malaysian should learn this Politics of Honour, learn to critise opponents based on the approaches and policies offered instead of launching the personal missile. Malaysian should also "brave" to change the leaders who are not able to keep their promises the way American rejected George W Bush after two terms in White House. When the public is proactive and dare to change the leaders, it's only then the leaders will be more responsible and not manipulative. As the power is in the people's hand, they must fully utilise it to filter out the weak leaders and Malaysia will get the best of the best to build a better nation.

agree!^_^
walaupun sy tak ikut sangat US Presidential Election, tapi from my limited readings on the subject, boleh lihat bagaimana kematangan these 2 top leaders dalam berpolitik.. of course, there were times when personal attacks were used to gain people's vote, but in the end, when one wins and the other loses, masing-masing respect each other [at least thats what i can conclude from their post-election speeches.. kalau di Msia? hmm]
i think this will come naturally, jika pemimpin meletakkan amanah dan tanggungjawab kepada rakyat [dan agama?] melebihi kepentingan peribadi..
dari segi Msians should be brave to vote for a change - yes, we should^_^ thats the challenge kan? mungkin ramai yang sudah sedar tentang beberapa kepincangan dalam kepimpinan sekarang, but to get the people to move out from comfort zone ke satu keadaan yang 'uncertain' for most people, is no easy task..
sebab tu [pendapat sy], islam provide us with the certainty^_^ we never know of whats going to happen in the future, but at least, as Muslims kita ade satu base yang kukuh yang kita boleh berpegang dengan--> islam.. kalau dah jelas one side tidak perjuangkan ini, maka perlu ade keyakinan untuk sokong pihak yang satu lagi^_^
wallahua'lam.. sekadar lontaran fikiran di malam hari hehe
