A day with children from Nur Salam

This is one of my good time with fellow KPMGians.

A day in the forest with the kids from Nur Salam. Actually, there' are many projects under CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) programs throughout the year that we can freely decide which one we would like to participate, ranging from teaching the less-fortunate how to dance or play piano to walk with them in the reserved forest. The main mission is helping the less-fortunate, from the kids of drug addicts to the handicapped women caused by domestic violence (in the hand of the men they love). And, this kind of CSR project is compulsory to everyone.

And I choose this, "a day in the reserved forest with kids" (i think it's too heart-breaking to go with the women-victim of domestic violence)

So, kids from Nur Salam. Who are they?

Nur Salam grew out of a day care centre that was opened to serve the Chow Kit neighborhood. Most of the children are originally from Chow Kit, but there are also children who have come to the area from other parts of Malaysia, who may have been trafficked, or who may be refugees. Most children come from one-parent homes, and many are the children of sex workers and/or drug addicts. In addition, many of the children do not have documents such as birth certificates or identity cards; some are stateless and unable to attend regular schools.

For further information on Nur Salam, kindly follow this link : http://www.chowkids.org/

We started the day by having breakfast with the kids before every KPMGians got our adopted kids from Nur Salam. We should take care of them (some sort of being the guardian during the whole program) and do not let our eyes off them.

Everybody got one kid

Then, we started our walking and climbing in the reserved forest. It's indeed very refreshing after spending most of my days in front of the laptop.

the kids are always faster than us. err..

One of the amazing scene in the forest. According to the forest guide, the leaves from these trees will never "touch" each other as they are producing a type of chemical to steer clear of others. Subhanallah..

interesting trees which I passed by during the walk

As stated in the nametag, the tree's name is "belalai gajah" .

This is very amazing.
I never knew before that there's a tree in the jungle produces this kind of leaf.

After the forest trekking, we have a "Colaj Competition" before we break for the lunch.

We were divided into 10 groups and required to make a colaj with a few rules and regulation like we were not allowed to use green leaves etc. That was my first time making colaj and I was so excited (sampai kne tegur dgn my performance manager..:D).

Guess what? My group (group number 2) won the 1st place in "Colaj Competition"! Wow, we beat the other 9 groups=D.

So, what's the purpose of the CSR program? As I said, we try to help others. Erm, by walking with them in the forest? Hurm...

I hope the children will get some benefits out of this program. Personally, I got 3 lessons of the day, first I learnt how to make a "colaj":D (it's my first time:D), second there are many amazing trees and leaves in the forest (bukan hutan aussie je cantik tau..) and finally, please always count the blessing that Allah has given to us. They are countless.

All in all, Let's say, Subhanallah for His amazing creatures and Alhamdulillah we are very fortunate, gifted and blessed (please always remember the less fortunate).

p/s: We have treasure hunt and waterfall climbing sessions in the afternoon.
